The Neustadt Connection
The Liedertafel is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2017. A speical programme of events will be taking place throughout the year.
Members of Lincoln Choral Society and the Cantoria Maĉon are joining the Liedertafel in Neustadt on Sunday 19th November for a performance of Verdi's Requiem.
1975 - 1998
The Liedertafel Neustadt has had links with Lincoln since 1975, when it was in partnership with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society. This came to an end in 1988 when the Gilbert & Sullivan Society disbanded.
The new partnership with the Lincoln Choral Society began in 2001 with the legendary open-air performance of "Carmina Burana" on the outdoor stage of Neustadter Sacred Heart Monastery. After the first performance in June, rainy weather spoiled anything further. However, Lincoln Choral Society travelled to Neustadt again in August for a second performance, thus demonstrating their desire to establish the new partnership.
The Neustadt Liedertafel visited Lincoln from 26-29th March. Continuing the Neustadter Kultursommer theme of "Italian" works, the two choirs performed Rossini's "Petite Messe Solennelle". Handel's "Messiah" - originally planned by Lincoln Choral Society was postponed until November. Two rehearsals and the concert itself took place in Lincoln Cathedral. During the return visit of the LCS in September 2004, an exhibition was staged in the Church of St. Joseph.
Other joint concerts:
Performance of Brahms Requiem in Lincoln Cathedral. The return visit of the LCS in October and performance at Saalbau Neustadt.
Concert program: Requiem of Gabriel Fauré and Gloria by Karl Jenkins. Joint concerts in April in Lincoln Cathedral and in June in the Church of St. Joseph in Neustadt.
LCS and the Liedertafel performed two joint concerts for the commemoration of the outbreak of World War I, the "seminal catastrophe of the 20th century" 100 years ago. "The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace" by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins was performed at the Lincoln Cathedral on October 25 and also in Neustadt in the reconciliation and peace concert on Memorial Day at the Saalbau.
2017 is the 150th Anniversary of the Liedertafel. There are a number of events and concerts planned throughout the year, including a concert in Neustadt on November 19th, with Lincoln Choral Society and Cantoria Maĉon, when Verdi's Requiem will be performed.
